We always look forward to World Book Week at the Teresian School, and this year was no exception. We welcomed our new librarian, Brian Hegarty, on the Monday, and the timing was just perfect.

A few words from Brian on the week:

We held a range of events to celebrate World Book Week at The Teresian School this year, as it is always something to look forward to.

On Tuesday, we tuned in to an interview and Q&A with our Past Pupil Catherine Prasifka, organised by Vivienne. Catherine gave us a wonderful insight into the inspiration behind her book None of This is Serious, and all the work that goes on behind the scenes to get a book ready for publication. Catherine is friendly, inspiring and knowledgeable, and she was happy to answer questions from lots of our students.

On Wednesday we had a very interesting online talk with the staff of the Museum of Irish Literature which explored James Joyce’s life and writing. It was fascinating to learn about James Joyce’s life, and to see that his books are interesting and approachable. Thanks to Lorena for organising this great event.

The highlight of the week was Thursday, when the school community all dressed up as their favourite literary characters. The Secondary School teachers dressed up as characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz while the Junior School teachers went for a 101 Dalmations theme.  The Junior School students had a parade in the Small Hall, and they were delighted to show off their costumes and tell us about their favourite characters. There were some outstanding outfits inspired by the students’ favourite books and films, with classics such as Roald Dahl particularly popular. It’s great to see that our students enjoy reading so much!

We also marked World Book Day by giving a €1.50 Book Voucher – sponsored by National Book Tokens – to every student in the Junior School and Pre-School. They will be able to swap their voucher for a free book at any bookshop!

They were all very excited about going to a bookshop and spending their voucher, and they asked lots of questions.

And the Junior School Book Fair was very popular all week, running both morning and afternoon. Thanks very much to all of the parents who kindly volunteered their time and energy to make it a success!
