Report from Transition Year on their Camino Pilgrimage

Sunday April 28th – 1st Day of Walking (21km)
7am departure – Sarai to Portomarin

On the first day of walking we set out at 6am. We were tired but excited to begin our journey. We walked into the sunrise and everyone went at their own pace. We all ended up at the same cafe for breakfast, it was lovely to be in company of everyone. After our breakfast we continued our trek. We stopped in many small ‘tiendas,’ looking at the different souvenirs they were selling. I bought a camino bracelet which the lady in the shop kindly tied to my wrist. The walk was beautiful and we didn’t notice time go by. We reached the village where we were staying which was located beside a big river. The view was stunning. We enjoyed the sun and relaxed until dinner, which was devoured within minutes! We split into our rooms and fell asleep by ten because we were all so exhausted from our long days walk!
